John Leavitt, well-known choral composer who is in residence at MANU, is conducting a concert of his music. Several Serenade musicians will be in the orchestra. Anyone who sings in a church choir will probably hear something they’ve sung before! The performance is at 3:30 Sunday April 25 at MANU in Olathe.
Lisa Jackson is playing a performance in honor of Rockhurst University’s Centennial April 18 at 7 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Kansas City. The program consists of Charpentier’s Te Deum and Mozart‘s Vesperae solennes de confessore.
Lisa Jackson is playing with the Kansas City Symphony April 9 and 10 at the Lyric Theater at 8 p.m. and on April 11 at 2 p.m. at Yardley Hall on the campus of Johnson County Community College. The program consists of Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin, Barber’s Knoxville – Summer of 1915 and Mahler’s 4th Symphony. The vocal soloist for the Barber and Mahler is Heidi Grant Murphy. This program includes some of my favorite music.
Lisa Jackson is playing with the Kansas City Symphony Chamber Players on Friday, March 26 at 8 p.m. at the MidAmerica Nazarene College Bell Cultural Center in Olathe. The string orchestra performance will include Grieg’s Holberg Suite.
It’s hard to believe Allegro Children’s Choir has been around 10 years already! We’ve played at every performance for the last 3-4 years! The performance is on 3/27 at 7:00 at Colonial Presbyterian Church at 95th and Wornall. I think we’ll be premiering another piece by Andrea Ramsey!
I’m excited about playing in the newEar concert tonight. This concert was created by ChinYi and will feature all composer’s from China, including herself and her husband Zouh Long who are on the faculty at University Missouri Kansas City. On one of the pieces I get to tap my feet in syncopated rhythm while I am playing! It is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Signe and Deb, beautiful wedding today! We’re on for next Sat, 3/13 at Country Club Christian from 4:30 – 6:00. Organ will be playing as well; don’t know if it’s David or Dale, but we’ll probably play together on the Pachelbel. Also on the list of music is Schubert Ave Maria, Jesu, Ode to Joy, Handel Air fr Water Music, Edelweiss and Sunrise, Sunset. See you there! d
Lisa Jackson is playing with the Kansas City Symphony this coming weekend in performances of George Crumb’s Haunted Landscape, Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 with Robert Levin, and Copland’s Symphony No. 3. All performances are under the direction of Music Director Michael Stern. March 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre downtown KC and March 7 at 2 p.m. at Yardley Hall at College Blvd and Quivira in Overland Park.
The Crumb has a vast array of percussion instruments, including a hammered dulcimer. The effect of the piece is great. I’ve always loved the Beethoven and look forward to a performance with Mr. Levin. And it has been many years since I have played the Copland, which is great fun to play and listen to!
Signe and Deb, looking forward to seeing you next weekend at Woods Chapel. It’s been awhile since we’ve played there. On the agenda, Jesu, Pachelbel, Bach Air and Hornpipe. See you then! dh
Signe Sandquist will be playing with the Lawrence Chamber Orchestra this Saturday, February 27. The “Baroque by Candlelight” concert is always fun because we play by “candlelight” and there is a wine/dessert reception following the concert. This year is particularly special because I get to play the concertino part on Corelli’s Concerto in D major, op. 6 no. 4. We are also playing the Orchestral Suite in b minor by J.S. Bach. This is the one that has several of the pieces that we play arrangements of at weddings, including the famous Badinerie!
