Ms. Heer is co-founder and contractor for Serenade. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While a student she performed with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and Snowbird Festival Orchestra in Salt Lake City (concertmaster), and participated in the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival in Blue Hill, Maine. She received her Master of Music in Violin Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa, where she performed with the Cedar Rapids Symphony and on receiving her degree became assistant concertmaster and first violinist in the symphony string quartet. She also played with the Des Moines Symphony as principal second violinist. Since moving to Kansas City, Ms. Heer has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Camerata, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Kansas City Ballet and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. She freelances on a regular basis and maintains a private violin studio.

Ms. Kelley, co-founder of Serenade, received her Bachelor of Music from Indiana University and Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has performed with the Schleswig Music Festival in Germany and the Robert Shaw Institute in Souillac, France. In Kansas City she has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Summerfest and the Orchestra at Starlight Theater. Ms. Kelley maintains a private cello studio in Kansas City.

Ms. Pherigo is a founding member of Serenade. She received her Bachelor of Music from Arizona State University and Master's degree in flute performance from Northwestern University. She is an active musician in the Kansas City area as principal flute with the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and flutist for newEar, Kansas City’s premiere contemporary new music ensemble. She has also performed with the Kansas City Symphony and Lyric Ballet. Around town she can be heard playing in the Starlight Theater Orchestra and at the Kansas City Repertoire Theater. Ms. Pherigo plays for many local church productions and recital series. She is also a singer, having sung with the Kansas City Chorale and for weddings, and is a soprano soloist at Unity Temple on the Plaza. |

Ms. Sandquist is a founding member of Serenade. She has a Bachelor of Music in violin performance from the University of Missouri/Kansas City, where she studied with former Kansas City Symphony concertmaster Tiberius Klausner. After graduating, she joined the Omaha symphony and taught private lessons for several years. Recently she has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Ballet, Topeka Symphony, Lawrence Chamber Orchestra, and Independence Messiah Orchestra. She freelances regularly in the Kansas City area.

Rene' Burrow, violist, is a founding member of Serenade. She received her Bachelor of Music from Wichita State University and her Master of Music in Viola Performance from The Cleveland Institute of Music. She previously was a member of the Dayton Philharmonic and Dayton Philharmonic String Quartet, Akron Symphony Orchestra (principal viola), The Ohio Chamber Orchestra, and Cleveland Ballet and Opera Orchestras. Since moving to Kansas City, Ms. Burrow plays regularly with the Kansas City Symphony and Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City (principal viola), as well as with the Kansas City Ballet, Lyric Opera, Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and Kansas City Chorale.

Ms. Gans received her Bachelor of Music in cello performance from Wichita State University. As a student she spent two summers in New York at the Ithaca Violoncello Institute and participated in the International Conducting Symposium at the Vienna Conservatory, where she was the youngest member of the orchestra to perform concerts in Austria. As a postgraduate student, Ms. Gans performed with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and was winner of the Concerto Aria Competition at Wichita State University. After moving to Kansas City, she became a regular substitute in the Kansas City Symphony and a member of the Kansas City Camerata. She has also performed with the Kansas City Ballet and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. She freelances on a regular basis.

Ms. Jackson earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music. She studied with the Cleveland String Quartet while at Eastman in the Quartet Seminar, which included weekly coaching and performances each semester. She earned her Master of Music degree from the University of Akron in Violin Performance and Literature. Ms. Jackson has performed with the Glimmerglass Opera, Akron Symphony, and was concertmaster of Heidelberg Schloss-Spiele in Germany, concertmaster of Wichita Grand Opera, associate concertmaster of Tulsa Opera, and many other ensembles. She was a full-time first violinist and assistant concertmaster of the Tulsa Philharmonic from 1993 until 2002, when the orchestra folded. She moved to Kansas City in 2005 to continue her relationship as a substitute with the Kansas City Symphony, which she began in 1999. She has a full violin and viola studio out of her home.

Phil Holmes, trumpet

Mr. Holmes is a band director and professional free-lance trumpet player. He was born and raised in Shawnee, KS. He attended Missouri Western State College and graduated with a degree in music education with a performance emphasis. He received his Master’s in Education from Mid America University. He continues to hone his trumpet skills through instruction from Master musicians. He has performed with The Kansas City Symphony, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, The Civic Theatre of Kansas City, Worlds of Fun - Tivoli, area big bands, jazz bands and brass quintets/quartets. He has served as soloist for area churches and choirs. He has played hundreds of weddings at a variety of venues.
